COLLECTIONS AND SERVICES

The Hanns Sachs Library at the Boston Psychoanalytic Society holds a valuable collection of historic and contemporary psychoanalytic literature and over 90 bound journals and current periodicals. The collection includes standard psychoanalytic references, biographies and histories, correspondences, Freud's writings, and works on child analysis. Works written by contemporary scholars and clinicians expanding the range of psychoanalytic thought and practice are continually added to the library's holdings. The library owns the PEP full-text database of eight major psychoanalytic journals from the early 1930's to 1998 that is available to patrons.

The BPSI Archives housed in the Nemetz Room holds the personal papers, books, photographs, audio and video tapes, and other materials pertaining to the history of the institute and to psychoanalysis in general. Among the Archive collections are the books and papers of Ives Hendrick, Isadore Coriat, Felix and Helene Deutsch, Grete and Edward Bibring, Walter Langer and the Suzanne T. van Amerongen collection of books on child analysis Access to the Archives may be requested by writing to
Dr. Sanford Gifford.

Although the Hanns Sachs Library is maintained for the use of BPSI members, unaffiliated scholars and students are invited to use the library. On-site use is free and available whenever the building is open. Borrowing privileges may be acquired for an annual subscription fee of $50.00.

-photocopying and mailing of articles ($6.00/article)

-instruction on electronic databases

-reference services and interlibrary loan
