LENDING POLICY

BPSI maintains a library for the use of its members, candidates, guest members, program participants and affiliates in support of the instructional and research goals of the institute. Others are welcome to visit and use the resources available within the library. Requests for photocopying and mailing of articles may be made by telephone for a fee of $6.00 per article; bibliographic searches are $15.00. Borrowing privileges are available for a yearly subscription fee of $50.00.

The BPSI library has a valuable collection of books and journals that we want to make as widely available as possible. Please help us by observing the following policies:

Loans

Books may be borrowed for up to four weeks and may be renewed in person or over the telephone for another four-week period unless a book is requested by someone else.

Overdue and lost books

If a book is not returned when it is due and we do not hear from you, we will send a letter or attempt to notify you by phone to remind you that the book is overdue. If we do not hear from you within two weeks after we have contacted you,
we will assume the book is lost.

You will receive an invoice of $40.00, or the actual cost of the book if it is more,
to replace it.

Journals and Reference Books

Bound journals are shelved alphabetically on the shelves; new issues are against the wall on the journal rack.
Journals and reference books do not circulate.

PEP CD-ROM

The library owns the Psychoanalytic Electronic Publishing (PEP) CD-ROM containing full-text articles from 1920 to 1998 of Contemporary Psychoanalysis, International Review of Psycho-Analysis, International Journal of Psycho-Analysis, Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association, Psychoanalytic Quarterly, Psychoanalytic Inquiry, Psychoanalytic Dialogues, and the Psychoanalytic Study of the Child. An updated version that will include articles through 2000 as well an expanded list of books and journals will be available in June or July 2003. Articles may be printed from the disk for .10 per page. The library also maintains a photocopy machine for use of library patrons.

BPSI Archives

The Nemetz Room Archive contains historic documents, administrative records, personal papers, audio and video tapes, photographs and other materials pertaining to the history of BPSI and of psychoanalysis in general. The Archive also collects monographs and other materials published by BPSI members.

Access to the Institute's Archive must be requested in writing to Dr. Sanford Gifford, Director of Archives, and supported by a statement of purpose.

If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Daniel Jacobs, Director (617) 232-6066.

Thank you.
