Myerson, Paul G. (1914-2000)
Biographical
Note:
Paul Graves Myerson was born in Boston on September 15, 1914. After his
graduation from Harvard College in 1935 and Harvard Medical School in
1939, he completed his neurological and psychiatric training at Mt.
Sinai and the New York Psychiatric hospitals. During World War II, he
served two years in the U.S. Navy. After the war he continued his
career as a practicing psychiatrist, teacher and writer. He was a
Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Tufts Medical School
(1963-1979), a Training Analyst at the Boston Psychoanalytic Society
and Institute, and the BPSI President (1972-1974). He published many
books and articles dealing with clinical issues of insight, recovery,
confrontation, and obsessive-compulsive disorders. Dr. Myerson died on
October 4, 2000.
Summary: the collection includes four
manuscript boxes of
photographs, reprints, book reviews, papers, correspondence,
and
biographical information. Please note that several papers of Dr.
Myerson could also be found in the Scientific Meetings
collection. The BPSI Archives holds several sound recordings
of Dr. Myerson's lectures and presentations (see Audiovisual Materials,
audio cassettes 190, 191, 232). The Oral History
Interviews collection also includes an interview with Paul
Myerson's brother David Myerson (audio cassette 418).
