Gifford, Sanford

Biographical Note: Sanford Gifford is a well-known psychoanalyst, psychiatrist, historian, and the BPSI Archives Director. He served as the Hanns Sachs Library Director from 1966 to 2000, taught many BPSI seminars, and helped to develop the BPSI Archives. The creator of our unique Oral History Interviews project, he has been recording conversations with noted psychoanalysts and their relatives for over thirty years. In addition to his continuing work for the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, Dr. Gifford teaches at Harvard Medical School, works at West Roxbury VA hospital, and chairs the History and Archives Committee of the American Psychoanalytic Association. He publishes widely and contributes many historical and biographical materials to the BPSI Archives.

this collection contains three boxes of papers written by Sanford Gifford: reprints, 
biographies, articles, book reviews, correspondence, notes, and workshop materials mostly covering the period of 1977-1998. The latest additions from 2005-present include recently written articles and book reviews.  Please note that many other Gifford's materials could be found in the Related BPSI Collections listed below.  The Oral History collections feature interviews conducted and recorded by Dr. Gifford.
