Oral History Interviews
Thanks to an over 30-year effort by Dr.
Sanford
Gifford, the BPSI Archives has a large collection of Oral
History
Interviews conducted throughout 1961-2004. The oral history
archive
features
interviews with many noted psychoanalysts and their family members,
such as Grete Bibring, Helene Deutsch, Suzanne and
Martin Deutsch, Marie Briehl, Mrs. Martin Peck, Maria Piers, Renee
Spitz, and many others.
BPSI
Event Recordings
This collection consists of video and audio
recordings of selected conferences, symposia, scientific
meetings, Meet the Author sessions, anniversary
celebrations,
and other events held by the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and
Institute.
Other Audiovisual Materials
Other materials in the audiovisual archive feature miscellaneous topics
of
psychoanalysis, documentaries, Classics
Revisited
series, as well as historic
events and interviews with analysts
recorded and produced by other organizations.
There is an undergoing effort to reorganize BPSI
audiovisual collections and create a digital archive of audio
recordings. Meanwhile, please consult this list
of video recordings (viewing it requires Adobe Acrobat Reader) or search
catalog as advised below.
Search Tips
Most of the audiovisual materials could be
found in the Library Catalog. Make sure you are
in the EHNANCED
SEARCH mode first.
To retrieve a
certain media type, select
Call Number from the Browse pull-down menu, and enter "reel to
reel"
or "audio cassette" or "video tape" in the search line. Combine this
search with any other query using AND operator to narrow your results
to certain words in the title, subject, author name, or anywhere in the
record.
