In an era in which health care is under scrutiny, reimbursement for psychotherapies increasingly may depend upon empirical support. Psychoanalysis, which has traditionally eschewed the possibility of being manualized, now has its own examples of manualized therapies that have shown efficacy for specific disorders. This presentation will discuss the implications of this for both the practice of psychoanalytic psychotherapy and for training psychoanalytic candidates and students of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
