The unconscious may be timeless but the world has changed. Dr. Summers addresses some challenges to the teaching and learning of psychodynamic therapy, describing a new, more pragmatic model: one that preserves the depths we all love and appreciate while also helping students create greater focus in the treatment. The model will be presented in overview and selected aspects discussed in detail, with attention to supporting evidence, coherence, and teachability. Dr. Summers will discuss new data on psychodynamic therapy with particular attention to identifying the core psychodynamic problem and therapeutic change.
