This lecture explores the circumstances and preconditions that facilitate human rights abuses. Several themes are explored and analyzed: the devaluation of certain members of society; persistent blaming of the victims of abuse; training physicians to identify with a political cause; fear of refusing to cooperate; bureaucratization of the medical role; and lack of concern for medical ethics (description from 3/00 BPSI program calendar).
