| Abstract: |
The Advanced Psychotherapy Training Program educates
clinicians so that they become skilled psychoanalytic psychotherapists.
The program spans three years of three ten-week semesters. As an
extension of the ATP program, a Conference on the Nature of the
Transference is held bi-annually, in the fall (generally October or
November) and in the spring (generally in May, although sometimes in
March or April). Papers that used as the conference case study
generally are written by ATP students or alumni. However, occasionally,
an author whose literature deals with aspects of psychoanalysis acts as
the conference presenter. Or the conference topic applies to issues
that psychoanalysts deal with, such as insurance. Discussants are
frequently program alumni as well or members of Boston’s medical
or therapeutic community. Papers cover a range of topics within
transference; discussion papers on the subject are often availabel as
well. |

Advanced Psychotherapy Training (ATP) Conference Papers, The Boston
Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, Boston, MA, USA.
Processed and encoded by Stephanie
Bennett, 2011.
All materials in the collection are
organized according to date. The collection had been previously
arranged an unknown number of times as documents from students and for
publicity were collected. Two papers are undated and have been placed
at the beginning of the collection; their dates can be approximated
using bibliographic information. Many of the items in the Individual
Papers series are dated with multiple and conflicting dates. They have
been arranged according to the earliest date available, whether that is
an author’s date, a BPSI stamped date, or a hand-noted date.
While all discussants’ papers are housed with their known
conference, some are not signed by their authors. When possible, using
information provided by the registration flyer and context from the
discussion paper, authorship was gleaned; in these cases, the surmised
author is preceded by (probable). One discussion paper’s
authorship, for the November 1996 conference titled Transitional Space
and Sadomasochistic Relating, remains unknown.Materials have been
re-housed from their previous folders into acid free folders and
archival boxes. Series I folders are labeled by paper author; Series II
folders are listed by conference title.
