Fellowship in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

The Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute is pleased to announce a Fellowship in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. The Fellowship is a one-year program designed to enhance participants’ grasp of the principles and practice of psychoanalytic psychotherapy. It is also well suited for clinicians considering more extensive training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy or training in psychoanalysis, but who are either uncertain or not yet ready for a multi-year training commitment.

Seminar Program Schedule

The Fellowship offers two seminars weekly, one theoretical and one clinical, led by outstanding teachers from the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. The theoretical seminar focuses on Fundamental Concepts of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy for the first term, on Comparative Theories of Psychotherapeutic Technique for the second term and on Selected Topics in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy for the third term. The clinical seminar consists of discussion of case material presented by instructors and class members, with senior faculty as discussants. The seminars meet on Thursday evenings for 30 weeks starting in September.

Faculty Advisors and Supervision

Each Fellow is matched with a faculty advisor who is available to discuss individual training goals and options. There is also an opportunity for individual supervision at reduced fees with a wide choice of experienced supervisors from the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute.

Who Should Apply

The Fellowship is designed especially for mental health clinicians who have completed or are in an advanced phase of their requisite clinical training (psychiatric residency, psychology internship, MSW, masters in psychiatric nursing, etc.) and who desire further didactic and clinical education in psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

Training Options

Students who complete the one-year Fellowship now have the option of applying to the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute’s Advanced Training Program in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (ATP). Applicants accepted into the Advanced Training Program may continue their training by entering the ATP as a second-year student in this Program.
