Conducting parent guidance, family therapy, or regular contact with parent treaters by the adolescent’s analyst has been seen as a potential disruption to the analysis. In this case, the analyst conducted all three modalities during the first phase of the analysis. Later on, parent guidance, individual adult therapy, and family therapy were instituted with different treaters. Both strategies facilitated her treatment and also presented countertransference and disclosure-related challenges for both analyst and other treaters.

Learning Objectives
1. Participants will increase awareness of how adult and child treaters can interface effectively to facilitate each other’s work.
2. Participants will discuss how to maximize safety and elaborate psychic reality without compromising ego development by collusion with traumatic distortion.
3. Participants will develop an awareness of when an analyst should participate in family treatment.
